Sustainability on the golf course confirmed with GEO recertification

August 24, 2023

Andermatt Golf Course has received the globally recognised GEO certification for three more years. According to the GEO Foundation, it is one of the first golf courses in Switzerland to be recertified, thus attesting to the outstanding commitment in the areas of nature conservation, resources management and social integration. At the same time, the new image film has also been completed, which shows the Andermatt Golf Course experience in impressive pictures.

Only a few golf courses have been recertified in Switzerland so far. The Andermatt Golf
Course is one of them and has received the globally recognised GEO certification for
another three years. David Bily of the GEO Foundation visited Andermatt in June and took a
close look at the golf course. The positive decision by the Scottish GEO Foundation is
gratifying. In particular, Bily praised the extensive grassland meadows, streams and
naturalized ponds, which offer a variety of habitats for birds, amphibians and insects. The
Andermatt Golf Course boasts considerable biodiversity, a circumstance confirmed by
monitorings that have been conducted as part of the Andermatt Responsible initiative.
Andermatt Responsible stands for climate-friendly tourism in the Andermatt region.

What is GEO certification?

The Swiss golfing association Swiss Golf prioritises sustainability and has entered into a partnership with the GEO Foundation . The Scotland-based international non-profit organisation was formed with the goal of promoting sustainability in and through golfing. To that end, the organisation has developed simple methods for measuring sustainability in golfing.

The perfect golf experience

The Andermatt Golf Course was given a makeover this year. Its appearance has been
completely revised – from logo to website. Now, the new image video is being released. The
biodiversity praised in the GEO recertification also features prominently in the image video
with the wonderful scenes of nature. The image video shows the enjoyable golf experience
in Andermatt, together with the associated trappings. They include diverse lodging options,
cuisine at the highest level, cultural experiences in the Andermatt Concert Hall and
unmatched natural surroundings. The film’s voiceover describes how to find the necessary
calm for the perfect tee shot. The image video was produced in collaboration with the
agency Filmgerberei .
