New Japanese style inspired apartment house Koya breaks records for Andermatt Swiss Alps

March 26, 2021

The start of March saw the much-anticipated launch of Andermatt Swiss Alps’ latest development, Koya, a collection of 34 Japanese inspired mezzanine style apartments with extensive shared owner amenities.

Following high levels of demand for Andermatt Swiss Alps’ previous studio apartment house, Frame, prospective purchasers for Koya were offered the chance to join an exclusive waiting list to purchase an apartment ahead of the public launch. The waiting list was soon fully subscribed and full sales details for Koya were launched to members of the list from the 3rd of March. Now just over three weeks on from the waiting list launch, 97% of Koya’s apartments are reserved.

This represents a record for Andermatt Swiss Alps in terms of sales rate for a new project and is testament to not only the popularity of this stylish and innovative new development but also the growing demand for real estate in Andermatt.

Russell Collins, Head of Sales Andermatt Swiss Alps: ‘We are delighted with the success of Koya. With its Japanese inspired design and extensive resident facilities, the development is an exciting and stand out concept for not only Andermatt but the Alpine residential market in general. Koya underlines Andermatt Swiss Alps’ innovative approach and commitment to creating homes that delight our residents and create the perfect place from which to explore this stunning part of the Swiss Alps.'

For those wishing to secure a home in Andermatt, there is good news. Andermatt Swiss Alps is committed to significant levels of investment in Andermatt in the coming years including new hotels, leisure and retail facilities. Aligned with this will be the announcement of exciting new residential projects later this year.

Koya

Conceived by Architect Raf Dauwe of Zurich based architecture practice OOS, Koya has been meticulously designed with pain staking attention to detail. The result is a truly exceptional building that is the perfect base for residents to enjoy their Alpine adventures in Andermatt.

The apartments have been designed with an innovative Japanese mezzanine style concept. As such, the majority of the apartments feature a spacious mezzanine level and huge double height living space with a ceiling height of up to nearly five metres. All the apartments have been designed to maximise space and light, with clever features such as built-in-furniture and large double height windows.

The apartments will be delivered to a high specification with brands such as Grohe and VZug throughout. As always, the building incorporates the finest Swiss design and quality that is now synonymous with the Andermatt Swiss Alps brand.

Away from the apartments Koya’s residents will benefit from access to extensive shared amenities including a shared kitchen and dining area for entertaining guests or socialising with fellow residents, a sauna and relaxation room for unwinding after a long day on the mountain, a cosy lounge with open fire in which to settle in and recant the day’s adventures, and a bright and verdant winter garden in which to sit and enjoy Alpine views.

Raf Dauwe, Architect OOS: ‘With Koya Andermatt Swiss Alps gave us the freedom to create something truly special and unlike anything seen in the Swiss Alps to date. Our vision was to create the perfect base camp for people with an active lifestyle to enjoy Andermatt. To do this we focused on the idea of connectivity and how to use space in an efficient and innovative way. Key to this approach was to design to the smallest detail to ensure each element works beautifully and has a purpose. The reference to Japanese design came naturally, each aspect of living was rethought and carefully analyzed, with a very pure architecture as a result. We created compact apartments, with a big and original spatial impact. Together with the luxury of shared amenities, one can get the best out of Andermatt, in a very clever way.’
