Sledding

Kneel down, lean back, and race off

Sledding is the easiest thing in the world – or so it seems. But if you want to master the art of curving and braking, you’ll need to practice. You can do it on one of the sledding runs in the region around Andermatt.

For those who like to take it easy

First take the Gütsch Express or the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway up to Nätschen and then the Oberalppassstrasse unhurriedly back to the valley. This route is particularly suited for families. Along the way, take the opportunity to enjoy the view of the Urseren Valley, including such wonders as Gemsstock, Pazolastock and Schijenstock. It’s worthwhile stopping in at the Himalaya Bar, which is located at roughly the halfway point of the route. Settle in to one of the lounge chairs and enjoy the sun and the impressive Uri mountain panorama. If you’re lucky, you’ll even spot yaks.

For those who like it up-tempo

Sledding fun starts in Milez at the mid-station of the Sedrun ski area. The upper section of the descent to the valley is designed for sledders and hikers and leads along the ski piste. Concentration is required, because this part of the sled run is speedy and not for the faint-hearted. The run gets a bit more leisurely from Mulinatsch. After the railway underpass, the sled run turns right and comes to an end. The last few metres to the chairlift are by foot. Once is never enough – so straight back to the lift and up to Milez.
